Thoughts on being a wife

I can see more & more that God is setting in certain times that I can spend time with my grandparents. Times that are not quite planned. But anyway, on Friday, my grama (yes, I know I left out the 'n' and the 'd' and added an 'm' !) and me were just driving to her house and we ended up talking about her and my grampa's life together. Sometimes they fight, but she told me how she hears God telling her to submit to her husband in the way that she should.

My grama is such a wonderful role model on how a Christian should act. Not just talk the talk, but you have to walk the walk.

I see myself in her so much: like our attitudes, and our thoughts, and what we go through personally, so that makes it so much easier to talk to her.
I can see a change in her and my grampas relationship. And it got me thinking of when I get married.

Here's what the Bible says:

"Wives, submit to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife...." Eph. 5:22-23

"...let the wife see that she respects her husband."

I want to be a respectful wife, a helper, a friend, and an encourager to my husband, should the Lord bless me with one.

I want to seek to be a "Virtuous Wife" as so in the book of Proverbs (31).

"..[she] provides food for her household..." Prov. 31:15
"She extends her hands to the poor, Yes she reaches out her hands to the needy." (v.20)
"strength and honor are her clothing" (v.25) (added bold and italicized)
"She opens her mouth with wisdom, and her tongue is the law of kindness. She watched over the ways of her household..." (verses 6-27)

I think all of us should seek this. If you're a guy, you should seek to be what God calls you to be. ("Husbands, love your wives..." Eph. 5:25)

This is just something that's been on my mind because I do desire a husband and kids. And I want to be all they will need.

"Create in me a new, clean heart O God, filled with clean thoughts and right desires."
Psalm 51:10

A lot of people don't see things this way. They feel that even thought the bible says it, it's "outdated" and they don't have to follow it. I know I've run into this countless times with friends. It's a hard battle within the minds of some people and the hearts of others. Take care and never give up. Keep looking or examples and striving to emulate people such as you grama.

Those are some really nice thoughts and Bible verses, Amber! I'm glad you're able to learn from your Grama's example. :) It's always nice when the Lord blesses us with special role models and people we can look up to and learn from in life! ...Have a blessed evening!

Great post! It is so true that not a lot of people look at marriage that way anymore. So sad. I am so glad that you have a grama like that. :)
Be blessed!

Hi Amber,
Being a respectful wife is soooo important. It is also so very hard. A woman can only do it with the help of our Lord!
Good for you that you are wanting to strive for that already and you are not even married yet.
Blessings to you!
