Q&A

I'm not really participating in this, but the questions were cool so I'm answering them ;)
If you'd like to participate, go here!

Favorite season, and why?

Well, I'm not the kind of person that plays favorites if you know what I mean. But for me, the most
magical season is definitely autumn.
How would you describe your personal style?

I couldn't describe it in one word. My personal style changes about every year. But lately, I've been greatly into bohemian stuff. I love the middle eastern style! So that's how I like to dress.
What's one weird thing you can do? (The stranger the better!)

Seriously. I can't do anything weird except maybe foreign accents.

Rain or shine?

Rain!

Confession time... what's a flaw of yours?

I'm a perfectionist. For example, this is the 3rd time I had to re-do this post ;)

Favorite music?

I love love love music. I love listening to Christian music. But I also love instrumental. I love stuff like bluegrass, guitars & violins & pianos.
And I love African music & Israeli music. The beat of a (middle east) drum is just...amazing. I enjoy 1940s & 50s music. I like Coffeehouse. Love Hawaiian.
Just a good variety.
Have you ever made a decision you instantly regretted? What was it?

The year was 199....no just kidding. I really can't think of anything.

Who do you admire/look up to?

My grammy! That old storyteller is just one I look up to.

You've just won an unlimited lifetime supply of... what?

Chap stick!
No but seriously, maybe......yeah, I'm gonna have to stick with chap stick.

If you were an animal, what would you be?

I would be a beautiful bird. Or maybe a butterfly. (I know it's not an animal but still.)

If you knew you were going to die in a year, what would you do with your time?

Probably what everyone else would do with their time ;)

You're now a gazillionaire... where do you go to spend your money?

Hmmm...Well, not to sound cliche, but I would give to the church & other organizations. I would also give some to my mama. Then I would go move to Israel!
Classical music: love it or hate it?

I really love it!

Phobias?
Does sitting on crumbs count as a phobia?
Hop on a plane and go live somewhere for a year... where is it, and why?

Oh, goodness. You've probably already figured this out, but Israel! Ever since my grandma told me about Israel & every time I read a Bible story, I just crave to be there & live there.

Are you an extrovert or an introvert?

Extrovert with my family -- Introvert anywhere else usually. But, I've gotten better.
Would you/do you perform on stage?
I have before, but who knows if I'll do it again.
Actually, now that I think about it, I kinda liked it.

How life is like a book.

It's not quite the last day of the year, but it's one more day to reflect on this crazy, beautiful adventure called LIFE.

I like to think of it as being a book.

One year ends--and so does another volume of the Amber Series Collection. This one, I'm almost finished with. Just a few more pages to go.

Looking back, (or should I say reading back) on this chapter book makes me smile. God has done a million and one incredible things. Lessons, adventures, excitement, dreams.

12 months ago I was worried about school, jobs, people.
But...I was about to open a new book with pages & pages of what I call the best year of my life.

Doubts? Worries? Fear?
Check.
It was all included in the Collection Series.
(There's been 17 of them so far)
There are still things I don't understand. But if God allowed just 60 more volumes, what kind of story would He write in them if I did understand it all?

When one reads a book, some people might like to take notes.
Well, when I read my life book (live it), journaling is like my notetaking.

I have no clue what's going to happen in 2011.
I don't even know what the book cover looks like!
I have no idea about school, or a job, or friends.
I can't skip over to one chapter, though, without reading what's already in front of me.

All I can say is that I'm just a happy girl, learning to take life...
one step at a time.

The Arizona trip was another chapter which brings a smile to my face.
I wrote about it here.

Oh, man, the kitchen is just way too hot.

Not really ;) Tonight, mama let me make dinner. And I must say, I liked it! It felt so good trying to accomplish such a hard task for me. I have to admit that cooking doesn't seem to come as naturally as some. But I guess it's all in practice & desire. (Oh, & love =) I felt like I was totally preparing myself for the future fam, & I am SO excited to learn. I think I want to take a cooking class soon.

I really miss my Grama's homemade tortillas. Mexican food NEEDS homemade tortillas, like, bad.

So, I basically ate alone tonight while mama watched a bit o' T.V. & snacked on her nightly chocolate animal crackers (hehe). I'm thinking I could get used to this.
~~~~~~~~~~
My sister has a violin (which I think is hilarious considering she bought it last year & still hasn't touched it. Literally) & I asked her if I can borrow it! Well, 2 strings are missing, & we don't have one of those things to make the horse hair bow thing to be soft. (Can you tell I have no idea what I'm talking about?) Soooo, I just played it like it was, & apparently sounded cool (according to a 2 year old, that is). If you've heard the Annie Moses Band, then you realize why I'm inspired to play the violin. (If you haven't heard or seen them, go to Youtube & look up Annie Moses Band- Trailmix)
So that's a bit of my day. I'm off to, well, I actually don't know. I guess fill my empty glass with tea =)
  8. What color do you wear most often?  Imost often probably wear brown.
I was tagged by my good pal Em! Thanks! The rules are:
Here are my questions:
1. What kind of art do you like? (This could be dance, photography, painting, etc)
2. What's one thing you've learned in that past year?
3. Quick! Grab the closest (grabable) object to you: what is it?
Blog Party! Of course you're invited, silly!
Guin at Singing In The Rain  is having an awesome blog party! Fun stuff!
Here we go. :)
1. What has been your favorite part of summer so far? I'm going to say being outside at sunset. No matter where I am it never fails to put a happy heart smile on my face.
2. What is your favorite part of autumn? So many things! Other than the colors, I love the feeling of cold. I love wearing yellow mittens and scarves, & then being inside a dimly lit coffee shop. You can't forget your steaming cup of hot chocolate!
3. Raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens? I'm gonna go with brown paper packages (tied up with string of course!) But I guess since that wasn't a choice, I love raindrops on roses.
4. Describe your dream house: "An 18th century fixer-upper. Technique, I want a colonial home with all the charm and character, old flooring, unique walls and layout, outhouses, barns, and buried treasure. I mainly just want a piece of history to call my own. Other than that, I don't really care what it looks like." This description was Emily's. Sorry girl, again we're too much alike :)
 5. What's your favorite movie? Fireproof!
6. Quote something from the book you most recently read: "...Christy went on. "We can't come to God as we are because of our sin. He's pure and holy, and we're not. That's why God allowed His only Son to die in our place. Jesus paid the price for our disobedience. But you already know all that, Aunt Marti. You know that God wants us to be made clean so that nothing would seperate us from Him." Christy swallowed her rising emotions. "I don't know if you know this, but He wants to give you a new heart, Aunt Marti. God wants you to take His salvation like a wedding dress. It's a pure, white, immensely expensive wedding dress. It cost Him His life. He offers it to all of us to wear as we walk this long aisle of life. But we have to put on His gift." ~I Promise by Robin Jones Gunn~
7. What do you like/not like about my blog? I want to be honest here. I think you should forget asking what people like/dislike about you and your blog and just come as you are! If some people don't like you, well then that's ok. Be you. (Somethin' I had to learn today =)
8. Rain or shine? Rain, because it's so calming.
9. The worst grammatical mistake, in your opinion: When people use text talk. Even when we're texting!
10. If you had a choice, would you want to live: in the mountains, in a rainforest, on a prairie, or by the beach? Tough one, Guin. All of them! I live in the mountains, but my grama lives near a prairie & it reminds me of The Love Comes Softly series. So maybe that. But oh how I love the beach! Okay, prairie it is.
11. What character from a book would you say you are most like? Christy Miller from The Christy Miller Series. There are 30 books in the whole entire series by Robin Jones Gunn, so that's why I refer to her a lot.
12. Be constantly talking the rest of your life or not be able to communicate in any way for the rest of your life? No way would I want to be talking the rest of my life. I think I already drive myself crazy doing that.
13. Owl City or Switchfoot? Owl City for the beat; Switchfoot for the beat and lyrics!
14. Taylor Swift of Selena Gomez? Well, music from Disney does not interest me, so I have to say neither. But I like their voices.
15. Your pet peeve? Sheesh, what a question. Not being able to fall asleep for two hours!
          16. What's your favorite font?: Courier & Garamond
17. How are you educated? (i.e. homeschooled, public schooled, private schooled): Homeschooled since the 2nd half of the 10th grade.
18. Do you consider yourself tomboy-ish or feminine? I can be both. (especially at home). That should tell you that I tend to be more tomboy around my family. But elsewhere, femininity is the most natural thing in the world. I love femininity more.
 19. What's your favorite song? I have many many. But currently it is this one: Schindler's List Soundtrack - Main Theme
          20. Did you enjoy answering these questions? Yes!
A cup full of modesty.
Honesty.
This word is the word that was used when I was "forced" to process all that was coming at me. The words were put in the kindest of ways, but the meaning was just too harsh for me.
We sat there. Me. Mom. and my older sister. Discussing things. Things about me. I hadn't even started this. But still, we discussed. I was told many things that were observed about my life. I was told the concerns they had for me. Little did they know that I was totally oblivious to it all.
Their thoughts: (which I very much appreciate now).
I was told that I come off insecure, low self-esteemed. Now, they were not bringing me down, they were just concerned as to why. Depression was also one that was brought up. Oh, and isolation.
My thoughts:
I assured them that I do struggle daily with my mind/thoughts. But I guess what they didn't know was that I love myself! Not loath!
Some modesty issues were also brought up. I can totally realize why people question why I wear long skirts & little to no make up. I mean, hardly anyone does that in these days, and so its quite understandable. I hadn't really thought about the fact that people were thinking I was "afraid" to show my body off (as if it was a good thing!) or that I felt insecure about my body and that's why they think I cover up myself. My Mom & sister have always understood modesty. But they think I go to an extreme.
To some, it's an extreme to cover yourself up like "an old lady" in a skirt. To me, its beautifully modest and God honoring. And modesty doesn't necessarily mean dressing like an old lady might I add! Dressing womanly with a cup full of modesty and a tablespoon of style has nothing to do with potato sacs and nothing but cloth head to toe.
I am glad that the discussion was brought up because I know their true feelings & now they know mine. Now they know that I wear what I wear because I am happy with it, and I know God is too. They know that I love femininity and modesty and guarding my heart in that way. They know that yes, I feel insecure sometimes, and yes, I struggle with low self esteem, but that I am so comfortable with who I am. God made everyone different, I'm learning. And I love who He made me to be.
He made me to love these things. He made me enjoy certain things like, reading, writing, old fashioned things, art, etc. I really do love who I am!
I think this made me appreciate who I am more than ever. I don't want to change myself, and in some ways I know I need to for the sake of God's Word.
My point tonight is that I am me, and I'm okay with it. I am still growing & learning. And not to mention experiencing and adventuring! But at this moment - I Amber Noella Leyba, love---me.
And I know God does too. And what He thinks of me is all that really matters, anyway.
As long as it's pleasing Him, who you are, what you like, and what you do is the only thing that will ever matter.
Dear blog,
Happy Birthday!
Today is a special day because you have written many posts in a matter of this year. I remember how you first got started, my first comment, & the anticipation of the whole art. I'm very pleased with where God took us, the people He's put across our path, & the inspiration, encouragement, laughs, & smiles that it benefited me. Yes, I remember all the plans I made for the title, & ideas for posts! (The title was originally , One Step At A Time Girls!)
In honor of this day, I want to share a little part of my personal journal written the day before you got started. This was probably before we got introduced. Please read.
August 10, 2009
Writing is one of the things I love to do. I think God has given me a gift I would love to one day use for His glory.....
You see? He paid attention to those desires, & the very next day allowed me to start you up!
I love hitting publish. I love logging on to dashboard. I love reading comments that make my heart smile. I love seeing that someone posted "12 minutes ago" on the bottom page.
What a great thing this turned into, & God willing this blog will have many, many more Birthdays!
Love your faithful publisher,
Amber
I want to say Thank You for all my friends & followers on here! Thanks for putting up w/ all my header changes, etc! I love you all, & your blogs. Don't forget to wish little Bloggy Happy Birthday!
Best Wishes to you all,
-Amber Noella
(Okay, "Best Wishes"? This is not Christmas time, Amber.)
Here's to Jasmine!
 This is my crazy, fun, laughable, weird, 11 year old cousin.
Amber + Jasmine= Awesomness!
(Oh, & she's holding a fork @ sweet tomatoes just in case you didn't know!)
Together since she was born, this gal has been my constant companion. We've been through thick & thin. Through fights & make ups. Through laughs & cries. Through beans & tortillas. (okay, that's just the food we eat at gramas every day)
She's my closest cousin. My laughing partner. My jazzy wazzy.
I love the games we come up with (The ABC game, jaz!) I loved playing cheerleader & fear factor & store & school & fashion show & having unsuccessful yard sales(haha) & the I'm A Dork Show's & doing "knees" with her. We're 6 years apart but this gal will always be like my sister!
She's not always up for taking pictures, but when she is................
 Yeah I know--she can be a little freaky.
Boy did we used to fight like CRAZY! We'd pull hair - call each other names - tattle, etc. Just your basic sister to sister quarrels. But we grew up! I love her more than she even knows.
I am totally in love with her laugh. If only you could hear her!
My FAVORITE picture of her ever! Haha, my brother doesn't even look affected.
Sorry it's upside down : )
'listen' to this conversation I had with her a few weeks ago:
12 year old boy (a friend ours) effortlessly climbing a tree.
Jasmine: Why don't boys get hurt when they fall off things?
Me: (not having an answer) Maybe their just made with something that girls don't have.
Jasmine: Well, we were made with an extra rib.
Haha, I couldn't stop laughing!
This little drama queen will be starting the 6th grade - - & yes, she's excited about getting a locker :)
Anwers and questions.
Okay, so when my sweet friends tag/award me {which I am SO grateful by the way} I don't usually post about it (with being busy, and okay...a little lazy). But I do add the award picture on my blog (check bottom)
Sweet Antonia, from Outside Into Life, gave me The Blue Award, and its really unique (I think)
Rules: For the award, answer the 10 questions your tagger has made up, make up 10 of your own.
I really wanted to make up my own :) *please understand my lack of posting everyone of the tags I get!*
1. Vegetables or fruits? Fruits...because they're sweeter :)
2. What is you favourite book genre? I like different types of books. I'm the type of person who doesn't have just one favorite, so I like to list em all! But I'll list my top 3: Devotionals, biography's, Christian or fantasy fiction.
3. Which character of a book would you like to meet in real?  Considering I haven't read fiction in a while, I'll have to go with Christy Miller.
4. If someone offers you a role in a movie, would you choose the bad or the good character? Well, definitely the good character! I can't act anyway, so I'd have to be an extra or something!
5. Do you like Maths? All my life I HATED it with passion, although I'm starting to find a slight interest in Geometry.
6. Book store or library? Book store! Library's are nice to go and study, but if I'm reading a book, I prefer it to be mine ;)
Well, 1 sister, and 1 brother. And then I have like 6 step siblings.
3. Do you live on a prairie, woodland, city, or other?
A city. But on the weekends, its all about the woodland!
What is something you enjoy doing with your family?
So many things! It sorta depends on the occasion, or mood. On Sundays, we all go out to eat after church (but I'm sure everyone does that:) Umm, I love going to the park for a picnic &  road trips
5. Is your room clean?
Haha, yeah right! I clean it everyday in the morning, and by bedtime, you would guess Tazz was in here.
6. Italy, Greece, France, Spain, or England?
In a nutshell, all of them ;)
7. What is the scripture that encourages your the most?
"Be strong and courageous, do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." ~Joshua 1:9~
8. Gum, chocolate, or jelly beans?
Jellybeans all the way!
Vanilla. And mint chocolate chip!
April 1, 2010
Blog parade! and my 1st one too!
You can go link up here!
1. If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would you say? I guess I would have to say Friendly
2. If you could go anywhere in the world with anyone you wanted to, where would you go and who with? Well, I think I would go to Israel with my Grama. She's been there like 4 times, and after hearing her stories of the way your life is changed makes me want to visit and be apart of it.
{But I'd also like to go to Paris, France with my mom and older sister.}
3. If you could have one superpower, what would it be? To be invisible, for sure.
4. What is one habit (or two ;) that you get teased about a lot? Well, I guess I kinds blush easily, and I'm CONSTANTLY being teased about it! Another habit, it that when I'm standing {ex. to do the dishes} I sorta stand like a Flamingo, with one leg balancing on my other. It is my way of 'balancing', or leaning. I never hear the end of it :)
5. What is (or are) your food obsession(s)? One word: FRUIT!
6. What is the best April Fools prank you pulled on someone or that someone pulled on you? I can honestly say I've never pulled one on anyone. Or at least, not one I can remember.
7. If you were an inanimate object, what would you be? A camera! {Am I the only one who had to look up what that word meant? I'm now ashamed!}
8. Let's say you could change the world in one way. How would you change it? I'd change the media. We are being bombarded with views about lies. And beauty that is fake. Most teens, and even younger kids are being affected at an early age {boyfriends, make up, immodest clothing}. I would change it to where they aren't in a hurry to grow up. Or better yet, they focus on God, and saving themselves for their future spouse. Shows like, Hannah Montana, icarly, etc, are not a good example for the audience of a younger generation. {Most of them display immodesty, lying, arguing, etc}
9. You have a million dollars (*gasp* ;). How do you spend it? I would use it for a Missions trip I've been praying about. I would help mom with money, debts, etc. I would save some for college, I'd buy books, buy a car, and maybe go skydiving. {No not maybe anymore. I would go!!}
10. What is one thing that always takes your breath away? (That could mean in a good way OR a bad way) Sunsets. I go crazy over them. They are my way of knowing God is especially near. Another this is seeing how quickly these kids around me in my house are growing up.
11. You are granted three wishes. What do you wish for? (Remember, you can't wish for more wishes ;) I would wish for a free trip to anywhere in the world for a whole year,  a ranch, with a horse of my very own, and heck, let's make it two horses!
12. You can spend the day with one character from a book or series that you've read. Who is that character? Does Jesus count? No, never mind. He's not a character. I guess it would be the book I am currently reading. It would be Christy Miller from The Christy Miller Series.
13. What is something odd or interesting about you that is not commonly known? I guess it's odd to people that I have been single all the years of my life {by choice and prayer}. What? A girl can't be secure in her relationship with the Lord and know she doesn't need a guy in her life to be happy anymore or what? Actually in the 6th/7th grade I had a 'boyfriend' for like one day, but I don't count any of that because I had not one clue what I was doing, and also we never talked to each other! I think in order to be someones 'girlfriend' you have to have an actual conversation!!
14. What is one thing that you absolutely positively cannot stand? DRY FEET!!! {sorry! Mine sorta get that way A LOT!!}
15. Say you committed a crime. The judge gives you a choice between sentences: twenty years of complete solitude in the mountains or never having another moment alone for the rest of your life. Your choice? I go pretty crazy if I'm with people for too long (!!), so I'd have to go with the 20 years of sol.......WAIT. 20 YEARS???????
16. What is one benefit that blogging has given you? One?! Reading other peoples blogs and being encouraged and inspired by them.
17. A perfect day in your eyes would be...? Oh man. I can't even begin to describe it.
I'm gonna have to go with my {future} wedding day. After waiting for so long I want to be able to look at him, in my white dress and tell him he is the only one I will ever kiss. Crying from the goodness of God. Him taking off my purity ring to put on the one that will stay forever.
Cliché's
Here's my post 4 the day. I got this idea from Content in Christ . Happy Friday!
If I were a gemstone, I’d be a Pearl
 If I were a scent, I’d be fresh clean white sheets
If I were a pair of shoes, I'd be a pointe shoe
If I were the weather, I'd be a breezy summers day on the beach
If I were a facial expression, I'd be a smile
If I were a car, I’d be a yellow bug
If I were a time of day, I’d be evening when the sun is going down
If I were a place, I'd be the beach
If I were a liquid, I’d be a glass of fresh water
If I were a taste, I’d be sweet and cold
If I were an animal, I'd be a horse
If I were a sea animal, I’d be a dolphin.
If I were a food, I’d be  salad
If I were a color, I'd be yellow
If I were a dessert, I'd be cheesecake
If I were a musical instrument, I'd be a cello
If I were a flower, I’d be a poppy
If I were a song, I’d be Prelude from Bach
If I were a planet, I’d be Saturn
If I were an object, I'd be a tea cup
If I were a fruit, I'd be a pineapple
If I were a sound, I’d be uncontrollable laughter
If I were a day of the week, I’d be Sunday.
birthday in the house
today we celebrated my 16th birthday, and it was tres bien! We went to church and then ate at a really awesome 50s restaurant. It was amazing there, we got to play the jukebox, and my favorite song: lollipop by the Chordettes played!
We had some delicious burgers/fries. I got to take a few polaroid pictures with my fam (although the film sorta expired!) and just enjoyed ourselves.
I'm really blessed to have the family that I have.
Hope you had a wonderful day!
